Mirage
by: Anchorsong
Anchorsong is the Tokyo-now-London producer known for his blend of organic-sounding microhouse, whose previous albums focused on blending the sounds of different countries and added his unique electronic flare to it. Anchorsong further explores this sonic niche with Mirage by presenting a kaleidoscope of sounds from across the world rather than focusing on a specific country.
Mirage is electronic music that doesn't feel synthetic. Each track isn't overly compressed, airy mixing makes some parts sound like live recordings, and any synths that show up are blended to sit side by side with Anchorsong's array of instruments from around the world. Mirage has a sense of escapism and wonder that isn't as prevalent as Anchorsong's previous releases, part of which comes from the album being born from lockdowns rather than international trips. One can discern the origins of some instruments, but references to other musical styles are not as concrete as before; this world is of Anchorsong's own making. This point is drove in as ambient influences are scattered around the project, prepping the listener for a daydream-like tour of Anchorsong's fantasy world.
